Trinity Green in 1904. This scene shows Haslar gate providing access through the fortifications built to protect Gosport from a French invasion threat in the nineteenth century. This gate would be demolished later in the year of this image. The bastion bank to the left of the bridge was removed at a later date. The moat was used at the time as the swimming pool for the residents of the town prior to a pool being constructed further round the moat and shown in painting number 6 in this collection. Trinity Church shows the recent addition in 1903 of the bell tower to commemorate the British losses in the Boer War. The vessel in the harbour is HMS St Vincent used for training naval cadets. The floating bridge or chain ferry is crossing to point at Old Portsmouth.
