This scene shows the St John’s Church in Forton known to Gosport residents today with its predecessor showing behind it. The original church was built in 1841 and fell into disrepair to the extent that a new church would be a more viable option. The new church was consecrated in 1906 which was a good decision as the roof of the old church had collapsed even before the new one was completed. The Edwardian buildings to the left of the church were destroyed by German bombing in December 1940. The original Queen Charlotte pub is on the left.
