This was the main road out of Portsmouth at the period depicted here c. 1890. Charles Dickens was born here at 1 Mile end Terrace on 7th Feb' 1812. Here it is has green window shutters and has not yet been converted into the museum of today. He lived there for just under three years. Most this scene remains as the area has been thankfully conserved. Several Dickens characters populate this scene.
