Built in 1935, the tower complex only lasted 36 years before being demolished due to falling into disrepair. It consisted of the main 120 foot high viewing tower, a restaurant, dance hall and cinema, later converted into a 10 pin bowling alley. The date for the scene painted here is 1956 where the film “Rock Around the Clock” was being shown. The billboard on the front of the cinema shows the original film poster design. On the left can be seen the original Blue Bird café which consisted of a wooden hut and gravel covered area at the front where the motor cycles and ice cream hut can be seen. This area is now built up with flats and shops.
