This scene shows the D Day Control Centre which was erected in 1944 to oversee the embarkations from Stokes Bay. This building would become the property of Stokes Bay Sailing Club after the war and undergo extensive modifications resulting in the building seen there today. To the right of the Control Centre was the Bathing Changing Rooms and Tea House. This was in use as the administrative building for the contruction of the Mulberry Harbour caissons. The contruction bases for these caissons are visible in the front of the building. They have been contructed and launched to be towed out to sea and sunk to conceal them. Once the invasion was underway, they would be refloated and towed to Normandy. The landing craft were those assigned to this location at the time. They are Mark 4 versions. The dolphin pontoon shown between the landing craft was dismantled after the war, but the dolphin furthest out from the shore was saved from removal until many years later. This was a prominent feature for swimmers to dive from throughout the 1960s. On the extreme left can be seen one of the buildings used for the personnel in 1944. The hardstanding for these buildings became the car park that is in use today near the childrens water park.
